Time flies when you’re having fun, the fifth week in Dundee already! After having seen Jonny English, all three Austin Powers and two series of Black Adder I think my grasp over the English language is at an acceptable level if I may bloody well say so! Also we have visited the museum, played some pool and launched a game!
The museum
After passing by the museum every morning for two weeks I decided it was time to give it a proper visit. What I found was a wonderful collection of very different things that summarize some of the history and art of Scotland and Dundee in particular. At the entrance of the first hall was a huge map of old Dundee which was interesting to see as it did not have the usual circular patterns most cities have. In the same hall I saw some displays of military equipment, some beautiful clockwork, a giant whale skeleton and a miniature of boats and old Dundee city (just to give you an impression on how much every display varied).
What was most interesting to me though, was the display of two very familiar (awesome!) video games: ‘Lemmings’ and ‘Grand Theft Auto’, of whom the creators were situated in Dundee at the time. Also, because two of them: Mike Dailly and Russell Kay are developers I now have the pleasure of working with at YoYo Games.
There were many other halls in the museum including photographs of the royal family, some nice traditional paintings and eastern and African art (see the photographs below).
Pool and Snooker
For the past two weekends we have been shooting some pool in a place called ‘The Olde Mill’. Both occasions reminded me on how terrible I am at Pool and Snooker in particular. That table is way to big and I think it’s a game design mistake to let you opponent earn points on very time you miss your target. I scored 40 vs 80 mostly-my-own-mistake-points in one match for example. Good times though.
The game
Last week ‘Rick O’ Shea’ hit the shelves of the mobile marketplaces! The game can be found at both iTunes and Android Marked. Hearing it’s doing good and seeing it’s getting noticed makes all the work worthwhile already. If you have a smart phone and have not jet played it, go do so at once!
